The telegraph Velocipede was developed in the 1880s intended to be utilized for telegraph repair crews. The car carried up to four line man, three on the handcar, and one in the storage box. We obtained a rare telegraph car that was found by a recent home buyer in Wisconsin that purchased the home of an auctioneer that recently passed. Inside the barn was the remains of the velocipede. We purchased the handcar which the selling graciously disassembled and shipped to by FedEx. We found the handcar was rebuilt at some point using parts from several retired donor cars. This was common for railroads to salvage parts in this way to build new handcars.

Rebuilding the velocipede included milling a new frame out of white ash. The process included steam bending for the outrigger.
